Patient raped in ICU of Rajasthan hospital by nursing staffer | India News

ALWAR: A 32-year-old woman was allegedly raped by a nursing staffer inside the surgical medical ICU of ESIC Medical College earlier this week, prompting police action and a hospital-level probe. The accused, Subhash Ghithala (30), has been barred from entering the hospital. The administration has also issued notices to the on-duty doctor and staff members, seeking their written responses. A committee has been formed to conduct an inquiry, and its findings are expected by Saturday evening.According to police, the woman had been admitted on June 2 for a tubectomy. After her surgery on June 4, she was shifted to the ICU. Her husband alleged in his complaint that around 11pm that night, a guard told him to wait outside. Between 1.30am and 2.30am, the guard and a male staffer said his wife was experiencing injection side effects and needed him. After he helped her lie down again, he was asked to leave.On June 5, the woman regained consciousness and told her husband that a male staffer had drawn the curtains and sexually assaulted her during the night. He immediately approached police, where an FIR was registered.The next day, the woman informed her attending doctor, Dr Deepika, who confronted the accused in front of witnesses. The hospital said Ghithala confessed during that interaction. SHO Ajit Badsara confirmed that he has been booked for molestation and rape.
