The CEO of the Uttarakhand Film Development Council Banshidhar Tiwari visited the set of Border 2 in Halduwala, Dehradun on Friday. Accompanied by Joint CEO Dr Nitin Upadhyay, the delegation met lead actor Sunny Deol and renowned director Anurag Singh to discuss Uttarakhand’s increasing appeal to filmmakers across the country.The CEO, Mr Tiwari, highlighted chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami’s vision of establishing Uttarakhand as a premier destination for cinema. The state’s film policy has introduced a simplified process for obtaining shooting permissions, along with administrative support and access to local resources, creating a filmmaker-friendly environment. Tiwari noted the positive feedback from the Border 2 production team, who praised the efficient coordination and welcoming atmosphere during the shoot.Border 2, a major war film set during the 1971 India-Pakistan conflict, is being produced by JP Dutta, Nidhi Dutta, and T-Series. The cast includes Sunny Deol, Varun Dhawan, Diljit Dosanjh, and Ahaan Shetty. A detailed set replicating a Kashmiri village has been constructed in Halduwala, complete with elaborate VFX and action sequences. The production is employing approximately 350 local workers each day, reflecting the economic impact of such large-scale projects on the region.Uttarakhand is currently hosting several other productions. Ginny Weds Sunny 2, directed by Vinod Bachchan and starring Avinash Tiwary and Medha Shankar, is underway in Dehradun. Meanwhile, Uttar Da Puttar, featuring Annu Kapoor and Pavan Malhotra, is being filmed across Dehradun and Rishikesh.Regional cinema is also flourishing, with films such as Marcha, Teri Maya, and Namak in production across Dehradun, Tehri, and Uttarkashi. These projects are engaging with local languages and traditions and are being supported through various logistical initiatives.In the 2024–25 financial year alone, Uttarakhand issued 225 shooting permits.
